Christmas Gift

This is an original screen print of a series I made back in the spring of London and all it's forgotten tube stations- all framed and ready to be given as a gift this Christmas. This is the first time I've got one of my pieces all framed up and it looks pretty cool.

Olympics revisited

I've been meaning to touch up my original Olympic games piece for aaaaagesss (being as it didn't come out too well) and have finally got round to finishing it off, so here we are! I'm hoping to get in the garage tomorrow and get another screen print done which I'll post up as well. Not particularly looking forward to the cold though- I need to find myself a heater!

Work in Progress

A sneaky peak at a screen print I'm currently working on. The final piece should hopefully be up on Monday.

Scanned Print

Scanned version of my Lincoln print- much better than a dodgy photograph.

Editorial

An editorial piece based around an article I found on the Guardian website entitled 'Biosecurity: ashes to ashes'. The article touches upon the destructive power of nature and our inability to control it, despite our best efforts and overconfidence. 'We are nature's custodians, not nature's masters'.

LINCOLN!

I've been meaning to create a print of the beautiful city of Lincoln (my home for the past 3 years) for a while now and it's finally all done and finished in the form of a 4 colour screenprint. Excuse the photographs- they're not great- I need to do some proper scans of my prints. Keep your eyes peeled for more map based pieces in the next few months!

Finished Print

After a lot of frustration, I've managed to get my olympic screen print finished. I really like the colour scheme of this one and am pretty pleased with how it's come out (although a few details are missing).

Digital

I've been having a ton of problems with my most recent screenprint and it's driving me slightly mad so I've temporarily abandoned the press this afternoon for my computer, resulting in a very quick digital version of my newest piece. Fingers crossed the real thing will all be resolved in a couple of days. But for now, here's the photoshop version...

In other news, I've been invited back by my wonderful old school to come in and give a talk to some sixth form art students about life as an illustrator! I'd better start planning my presentation...

Olympic fever

It may have all come to an end a few weeks ago, but I wanted to create a piece to celebrate the success of both the Olympic and Paralympic games. I had a fantastic time watching all the sport over the summer and was lucky enough to get tickets to see the handball too. Here's some work in progress. The piece will be a screenprint, most probably three colours which will probably take inspiration from the colour scheme of both games.

Finished!

FINALLY, after what seems an absolute age I've finished my 'He' character screenprint. Here he is for all to see...

Work In Progress...

I've FINALLY managed to get up and running with screen printing in the garage. It's taken a while and a lot of preparation but now I can get on and start producing some much needed work! I've got a few things on the go at the moment including a typography based piece and will update with sketchbook peeks and bits and bobs shortly. In the meantime, here's a quick shot of my homemade screen printing bed with a print in progress...

Printing!

It's been a while, but I've finally been able to get some more lino portraits printed on the work table my dad very kindly made me in the garage. I've created a set of what will be 24 signed limited edition prints all approx. A4 in size of Kurt Schwitters' Swineherd. I also want to do the same for some of my existing prints including the Good Man and He and try to sell them.

The Swineherd

I'm also in the process of creating another lino portrait, this time of the Swineherd (another character from one of Kurt Schwitters Merz stories). Here are some quick drawings from my sketchbook of the character in progress...

Modified

A quick rework of my He visual. I've given him his second leg and reworked the composition a bit- I think it looks much better now. Just need to get printing next!

Screenprint Visual

I'm working on creating a new screenprint based upon the 'He' Merz story by Kurt Schwitters. This is currently a work in progress and any comments or feedback would be much appreciated. At the moment my He character only has one leg - initially this seemed a good idea but now I think it looks a bit bizarre- any thoughts? I'm hoping to print this as a signed limited edition series (not sure how many yet) and am going to use the same 3 colour scheme as I did with my He book cover screenprint. They won't be finished for a while though- I need to build a screen printing bed in the garage first!

Apologies!

Sorry everyone for the distinct lack of updates! I'm in the process of leaving/moving out of University and back home and there's a lot to get sorted. I've got a few ideas on the go at the moment but need to get some sort of mini print studio set up at home so I can properly get started. I'll start updating with thumbnails and works in progress soon! In the meantime, here are some shots from my recently finished degree show...

AOI continued...

Ever since I started drawing out maps for the AOI Secret London competition, I've been really keen to get in the print room and do a screen print of one of them. For this, I decided to stick with my original idea of including the names of old, abandoned tube stations into my map as I didn't want the design to look too complicated. I decided to work with 2 colours- navy blue and red on white paper as these also reflect the colours of the London Underground. I'm really pleased with how this has come out...

Bottles

Got my assortment of corks through in the post so I've finally been able to fill these up (with food dye) and finish them off. I'm pretty pleased with how they've come out- they look a lot better filled than they did empty.

Finished covers

A few alterations made to my 'He' jacket (added more to the extract at the back) and completed cover for Lucky Hans...

Book Jacket for 'HE'

Outcome? Not sure if it needs anymore tweaking...
